3 times per week is good to start with. If this is your first time the instructor will design a program for you starting with cardio and light weights to tone up your muscles.
The rowing machine is the best all round cardio to start on, I mean the type with a metal chain, this machine works all body muscle groups, gets you supple and toned ready for muscle building. After a few weeks of cardio and light weights Your Instructor will design a muscle building and cardio program for general overall fitness.
