The deadlift works all major muscle groups. But it actually does not target any one in particular. As for the upper body, it works the Upper middle back, traps, and gives a kind of extra fullness to the chest area.
It is one of the 3 major muscle-building exercises cornerstone exercise. The Bench Press and Squat are the other two. You simply build your routines around these 3 for a mag physique.
If you do not include these 3 you are missing out on strength and power. One important thing to remember about the deadlift… If overused, it can give you rounded shoulders, so make sure you add plenty of shoulder exercises.
